Hot Topics – January to March 2015
Hot Topics is a friendly, easy going group who meet regularly to discuss the thorny issues that come up in the media from a Catholic point of view as well as taking a look at our Catholic beliefs. We take our inspiration from John Henry Newman’s call for an educated laity:
“I want a laity, not arrogant, not rash in speech, not disputatious, but men who know their religion, who enter into it, who know just where they stand, who know what they hold, and what they do not, who know their creed so well, that they can give an account of it, who know so much of history that they can defend it. I want an intelligent, well-instructed laity… You ought to be able to bring out what you feel and what you mean, as well as to feel and mean it”
At Hot Topics there’s no compulsion to believe what everyone else believes, and questions are always welcomed, as they help us understand more fully why we believe what we do. Past topics have included contraception, Theology of the Body, looking at YouCat, praying with scripture and saying the rosary among others.
If you have any hot topics that you would like to discuss, please do come along to the planning meeting, or email us. Likewise, if you would like to give a talk, then we would love to hear from you.
